Inspiration

„Inspired by an imperial love“

With regard to Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut-region as the European Capital of Culture in 2024, we started our “Miramare enjoyment project” in spring 2023. We were inspired by the loving longing of our imperial ancestors for the mediterrean in the sunny south. With the name „Miramare“ we refer to the famous Habsburg castle Miramare near Trieste.

There we gladly found what we were looking for. It was built for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, the brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I (1864 – 67 Emperor of Mexico) and his wife Charlotte of Belgium and reflects their great love for the sea.

After Maximilian’s death, it served as the Habsburgs‘ summer residence from 1867 to 1914.

Our “Miramare Menu” is the culinary expression of our love for our southern neighboring country Italy and contains selected specialties with the high quality-standards of a certified, genuine, native Italian master.  His cuisine follows a traditional, Mediterranean approach, is embedded in a European cultural mix and always accompanied by a modern vision.

Osteria simply means “Inn” in Italian language (“Gastwirtschaft” in Austrian).

„Keep it simple“ and “Simply Living” has been our motto from the very beginning (“Einfach Leben” is the slogan of our supplying brewery „Trumer Beer“ and we use it since the opening of the k.u.k. Hofbeisl in 1985).

Hence our “Osteria formula” is very simple: k.u.k.  Hofbeisl + Miramare + Osteria = k.u.k. Osteria Miramare.

The interior ambience is simple and after 9 pm the traditional charakter as a party location with DJs or live music stays the same like it was before, according to situative moods and events.

Once upon a time, in the same place like the Osteria in the k.u.k. Hofbeisl, there used to be a bakery. At the very back of the k.u.k. Hofbeisl, in front of the passage to the k.u.k. Hofwirt an unusual and original wall decoration can be discovered. Exactly at the location of our Miramare-kitchen there was the oven of the well known Bad Ischl bakeries Vogtenhuber and Nahmer.

We did not change the original tiles and the doors of the oven. Now we are working with dough again. Rethinking old things – that’s what we’ve always liked…

„Ciao at the k.u.k. Hofbeisl“

My name is Alessandro Musciagna and I come from Barletta in the delicious region of Puglia in the southeast of Italy. I have been working with dough for 20 years and collecting experience all over Europe. Now I have settled in the beautiful Salzkammergut because I found my true love and founded a “multicultural family” here.

Whatever we do within our “Miramare culinary concept”, we do it with passion and the necessary know-how. We pay attention that our ingredients are certified “DOP” (“Denominazione di Origine Protetta”) or “IGP” (“Indicazione Geografi ca Protetta”).  Our special processing techniques of bread and pizza dough such as the 48-hour fermentation not only ensures a unique taste, but also a happy stomach and palate.

At the end of November 2022, I was certified as a “Master Instructor” by the DOC Pizza Academy. This will enable me even better to show the love and passion to our guests, which I use every day in my dough and the compositions served on it.
